Exclusive interview with Bhangra sensation Benny DhaliwalWe caught up with Benny Dhaliwal at the UK AMA's to talk about his music career so far and what he's got planned for the future.
How did your musical journey begin? I’ve been doing music for 5-6 years. I met Aman Hayer through Jazzy B, who is a good friend of mine and it just went from there. What made you want to get involved with music, have you always wanted to be a singer? I used to be a kabaddi player, and I’ve always felt kabaddi and music have some sort of connection so that’s why i wanted to get involved with music.
You recently collaborated with Aman Hayer, Dev Dhillon and Angrez Ali on ‘Ajj Nachna’, how did that collaboration come about? That was all Aman’s idea, we’re all part of the entourage and he thought it would be good if we all did a song together, so it pretty much just went from there. Who are your musical influences? I’m a big fan of Labh Heera, Kuldeep Manak and Jazzy B. How did you feel when you heard about the passing of musical legend Kuldeep Manak? I was very sad to hear about it, i respect his music; he’s a big musical influence, his music will live on forever, and hopefully people will appreciate his music a lot more now. There will never be another Kuldeep Manak, he's irreplaceable. What can we expect from you in the future? I’ve just released my debut album called ‘Va Vai Va’ and I’ve got a few collaborations lined up with a couple of UK artists, which you’ll be hearing next year. I’ve also got a big collaboration lined up, all i can say is, he’s one of the biggest artists in the Bhangra industry. Is there anyone in particular you’d like to work with? I’d love to work with Jazzy B, he’s a big inspiration and a very good friend of mine, so hopefully I’ll get a chance to collaborate with him sometime.
I think everyone’s quite good, my favourite is Jazzy B, he’s my idol. I’ve always listened to his music. Check out Benny Dhaliwa's Kuri Meri Haan Di video
