BOND GIRL - OLGA KURYLENKO REVEALS OF BEING AN ACROPHOBIC
The beautiful Ukrainian born actress, former model and now the Bond Girl in upcoming 007 film, Olga Kurylenko, has revealed that she is afraid of heights. Olga is the new Bond girl who casts opposite Daniel Craig, the James Bond in Quantum of Solace (QOS), which releases this November, 7 In India. "Yes, I don't like heights and I am an acrophobic" she admits.
Olga, embarked on an epic adventure which took her to far flung parts of the globe – including Panama and Chile for the shoot of QOS. While the daunting and exciting physical challenge of doing much of her own stunt works, she faced up to one of her deepest fears during the filming and came up to the conclusion of being afraid of heights.
Though it does sound a little strange that the Bond Girl also fears something, "But then, who doesn't? And I had to do two scenes that were a little high up and that too being an acrophobic." She says. "But I did them. And that's one of the great things about this job and in particular working on a Bond movie. You get to do so many different things. Where else are you going to get the chance to work through your fear like that? You have to do it, you have to jump off the roof and there's no choice. I was so proud of myself when I did it. It was a big thing for me and thereafter it was like 'wow, I did it!' You feel such a sense of achievement," She proudly adds.
It was Christmas Eve when Olga came to know that she'd won the highly coveted role of 'Camille' in Quantum of Solace, the 22nd film in the world's longest running movie franchise which sees Daniel Craig return as James Bond for the second time and directed by Marc Forster. "And as you can imagine, that's the best Christmas present I've ever had," she quips. "It was exciting and challenging and at times a little frightening, but how many times do you get to be a Bond girl? It's a once in a lifetime opportunity and it's been an incredible experience." She further tells.
In Quantum of Solace, the story starts immediately from where Casino Royale ended and sees a broken hearted Bond trying to unravel the mystery of exactly what caused the death of the woman he fell in love with, Vesper Lynd (played by Eva Green in Casino Royale) and who had betrayed him. His quest ultimately leads him to Dominic Greene (played by Mathieu Amalric) the head of a shadowy organization called Quantum which is secretly trying to gain control of some of the developing world's most precious natural resources.
Bond tries to stop Quantum but his boss, M, played by Dame Judi Dench fears that he is out of control, a lone wolf simply hell bent on revenge. Bond also discovers that he can trust no one – and that Quantum's influence reaches far and wide and that he now has enemies within the CIA and indeed the British government. He also finds an unlikely ally in the mysterious Camille – played by Kurylenko – who is on her own quest.
"Camille is very strong and very determined," says Olga about her character in the film. "An independent and very feisty woman, she's almost like a female version of Bond. And, basically, she's after a revenge. She was a really great character to play. I learned so many things. All the stunt guys and the armourers taught me how to fight, how to shoot, how to fly, how to strip a gun. Everything was so exciting and experience of a lifetime. At first it was exhausting because we would train for hours and hours each day but then it began to get a little easier and I really enjoyed it. I'll never forget it as this Bond movie also tended to get me away my biggest fear." Also says Olga.
Olga was born and raised in Berdyansk in the Ukraine and her talent was spotted by a modeling scout at 13. By the time she was 16, she was based in Paris and gracing the catwalks all around Europe.
